This profound statement is the foundation on which Shirley Wolstenholme, author of The Skunk Who Went to Town, wrote a book that has been dubbed as “a parents aid to teaching character building.” She shares, “Character is a belief in an absolute system of right and wrong, combined with the will to do what is right regardless of the cost. We are living in a culture today that often chooses achievement over character. When that happens, there is an automatic change in a person’s ethics and values.” The Skunk Who Went to Town, evolved at the tender age of 9 yrs old through an assignment in Grade 4. She says she knew from that moment that she wanted to create other stories with animals as a guide for young children who often relate to animals on their own level. As a mother she wanted to teach her child character.
